Answer: No. You can apply online by going to www.healthmarkets.com. Click on the "Become an Agent" tab. This easy-to-follow guide provides an overview of our agent's career opportunities and an online application that starts the process.

Question: Do I have to pay a fee in order to represent the HealthMarkets Companies as a sales agent?

Answer: There is a fee associated with contracting as an agent representing the HealthMarkets Companies. The fee pays for the new agent's background check, appointment to the underwriting companies, and for the marketing materials. The sales agent is also responsible for fees associated with their state insurance license(s).

Question: Are HealthMarkets agents considered employees or contracted self-employed agents?

Answer: All agents representing the HealthMarkets Companies are independent contractors and individual self-employed business owners. Agents are not employees of the company. Total compensation is paid on a commission only basis. As individual business owners, agents representing the HealthMarkets Companies have access to the same insurance and business products available to our customers.

Question: Do independent insurance brokers sell HealthMarkets products?

Answer: At HealthMarkets, we believe our agents offer the consumer the best path to personalized health protection solutions tailored for each of them. Our agents are the face of our company and provide valuable expertise to the customers they serve. They must complete and pass a thorough series of product training courses and be committed to helping customers determine the right level of coverage to meet their needs. We try to ensure that our agents are focused on the customer's needs and not on the plan that pays the highest sales commission. Independent brokers representing multiple insurance carriers are not eligible to offer our products and services.

Question: If I have management experience why can't I become a sales leader right away?

Answer: As independent contractors, agents representing the HealthMarkets Companies, manage their own individual business from the start of their career with us. Agents who successfully build their businesses can qualify for leadership opportunities. Each of our field leaders starts their career with us by building a successful individual practice. As their practice builds, our agents can add to their teams and grow their business progressively over time at the local, state, and regional levels.

Question: Does HealthMarkets only conduct interviews in a group setting?

Answer: This is only one of the steps in our candidate selection process. Once it is determined that an applicant meets our preliminary qualifications, an invitation is extended to attend a group orientation. Typically the orientation occurs in a seminar format. Generally more than one potential candidate attends the session. In the seminar, the applicant receives an overview of the HealthMarkets Companies and a possible career path. Additionally, the candidate observes and meets with the local office leader in a dynamic professional setting. Our field leader's observations and assessment during the seminar helps determine if a potential candidate will move to the next step in the interview process. Generally, the final step is a formal one-on-one interview.
